At present, Swisscontact South Asia has the largest portfolio of development projects in Bangladesh and the office located in Dhaka functions as the South Asia Regional Office (SARO). Swisscontact also maintains a country office in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland and represented in 36 countries with over 1,400 employees. Swisscontact has been promoting economic, social and environmental development since 1959. We invite applications from committed and experienced Nepali citizens for the following position:

Position: Finance Officer, CASA, Nepal

Reports to: Country Manager, CASA, Nepal

Workplace: The workplace is located in Swisscontact country office in Kathmandu, but work may also involve travels within and outside of Nepal.

Under the supervision of the Country Manager, ensure smooth functioning of CASA through proper planning, implementation, coordination and controlling of accounting and finance functions of the project in accordance with Swisscontact’s rules and regulations including donor’s requirements.

Qualification, Experience and Competencies:

  • A Chartered Accountant preferred, or at least Bachelor’s in Business Administration with concentration in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 3 to 4 years work experience in accounting/finance field. Preferably in the development. cooperation field with donor agencies. Experience with DFID projects is an added value.
  • Experience in the management of material resources (purchase orders, accounting etc)
  • Experience in management of funds from different donors, preparation of balance sheets and budgets, and accomplishing financial audits.
  • Ability to interpret financial procedures and standards and their application.
  • Capacity to work under pressure in an international environment.
  • Excellent analytical and management skills in addition to being a team player.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali.

Main Tasks:

  • Establish and implement financial procedures in line with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Monitor timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions in line with organizational and donor requirements and deadlines.
  • Establish and prepare accurate and timely information for budget monitoring and progress reporting of programme funds and grants.
  • Provide financial management advice on revisions of budgets, preparing periodical forecasts and any changes needed.
  • Ensure financial management and accounting of the CASA project.
  • Support Country Manager in preparing monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and yearly reports as per requirements of the Project.
  • Support Country Manager in preparing for external audits and work independently with external auditors. 3.2 Specific Tasks • Ensure contracts/ agreements with different stakeholders are done in accordance with project’s rules and regulations.
  • Regular update and maintenance of the digital accounting system.
  • Ensure proper record keeping of all financial documents.
  • Prepare vouchers and journal entries continuously in line with project requirements.
  • Ensure proper inventory management and record keeping of all fixed assets, also in compliance with donor’s requirements.
  • Disburse cheques to Project's customers and partners.
  • Process and maintain payments of salaries and benefits of project staffs.
  • Assist in procurement of goods for the project and ensure proper execution of the procurement system.
  • Prepare budgets and cash flow statements as required.
  • Prepare and dispatch timely invoices as per contract with external parties.
  • Maintain bank accounts and prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements.
  • Prepare fund requisition with support from Country Manager and plan fund request timing and transfer.
