The Gurkha Welfare Trust works in both Nepal and the UK. The focus of its work is caring for the elderly Gurkha soldiers and their widows in Nepal who are dependent on the Trust for a secure old age. It provides a monthly Welfare Pension, a winter fuel allowance and emergency hardship grants. It also looks after all their medical needs, from GP care to long-term hospital treatment. For those unable to live independently, the Trust offers residential care. The Trust also delivers vital community aid to rural villages in Nepal, installing clean water systems and sanitation, running mobile medical camps and building and refurbishing schools. In the UK, the Trust continues its support, providing advice and information to Gurkhas who have chosen to make their home there. In all it does, in Nepal and the UK, The Gurkha Welfare Trust strives to honour the generations of friendship and distinguished service offered by the Gurkhas to the British Crown.

job description
  • The Secondary Care Liaison Manager is responsible for enrolling, registering and managing the relationships with strategically selected medical care providers (including providers of laboratory and imaging services) in Nepal.
  • This involves providing support for participating providers to fulfil the requirements of GWT(N), ensuring they are satisfied with, understand and adhere to the agreed processes of GWT(N), and negotiating MOUs. It also involves liaising with hospitals where GWT (N) patients have been admitted and supporting decision making regarding their care, providing feedback as required in case of overtreatment of any inappropriate treatment.
  • The SCLM will support communication between GWT(N) medical doctors and the secondary care doctors.
  • This role also works closely with and supports the Medical Advice Cell (Claims) to advise on secondary medical claims process and decision making in line with GWT(N) requirements.
  • This is a senior, front line, provider facing and customer advocate role responsible for engaging with providers pre, and post, agreement to participate in the GWT(N) network and ensuring adherence to GWT(N)rules and quality standards, including delivery of training to GWT(N) staff and provider representatives.
  • This role requires strong leadership, a good process and operational understanding and the ability to work together with senior provider stakeholders to influence decisions.
  • It also requires the individual to liaise effectively with provider representatives to detect, address and solve any quality or probity issues on behalf of GWT(N)
Job Specification
  • Manage new and existing provider partnerships including collecting key provider file information for provider file set up (where applicable).
  • Be responsible for recording and maintaining an up to date Referral Management database ensuring quality and accuracy of the information entered .
  • Review existing provider relationships periodically, audit usage and claim volume, reaudit existing providers and revise list of approved providers accordingly.
  • Establish relationship management plan to execute a cycle of visits to key providers.
  • Deliver periodic status reports to the Medical Director.
  • Educate providers on GWT(N) Scheme rules and expectations for pensioner treatment including overview on GWT claims management processes.
Education description
  • Primary Medical Degree equivalent to MBBS.
  • Postgraduate degree in Internal Medicine or General Practice an advantage.
  • Primary or Postgraduate degree in management or hospital / health systems management is a strong advantage.
  • At least 2 years experience in a senior (health service) management role.
  • Previous exposure to healthcare provider management a plus.
