We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Engineer (Bachelor’s or Master’s) for a combined Estimator + AutoCAD Designer position. Based in our Kathmandu office, you will directly support US-based commercial walk-in cooler, freezer, and cold-storage projects.

The ideal candidate possesses strong HVAC/HVAC-R foundational knowledge, sharp spatial reasoning, and the ability to seamlessly transition between calculating precise material takeoffs and drafting accurate AutoCAD layouts. Because you will collaborate daily with US engineering and sales teams, fluency in English and the ability to work US Central Standard Time (CST) hours are absolute requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Estimation & Material Takeoff

  • Drawing Interpretation: Analyze architectural, mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration drawings to understand room layouts, insulation requirements, and thermal performance.
  • Material Quantification: Perform accurate takeoffs to calculate wall, ceiling, and floor panel quantities, including custom cuts for non-standard/off-module dimensions.
  • Component Identification: Identify specific cooler/freezer doors, personnel doors, hardware configurations, and service openings.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM): Build complete, line-item material lists covering panels, doors, trim, hardware, and structural accessories.
  • Cost Estimation: Develop comprehensive project quotes factoring in materials, labor, freight, and subcontractor variables.
  • Vendor Coordination: Partner with US vendors to obtain accurate pricing and clarify technical specifications.

2. AutoCAD Design & Drafting

  • Layout Generation: Design and draft precise panel maps, layouts, elevations, and structural connection details using AutoCAD.
  • Detailing: Incorporate precise door hardware specifications, including hinges, pressure relief valves, threshold heaters, and door closers.
  • Revisions & Standards: Promptly update layout drawings based on redlines and engineering feedback while strictly adhering to US cold-storage and HVAC-R drafting standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's/master’s degree in mechanical (Highly Preferred), Civil, Structural, Industrial, or Architectural Engineering.
  • A strong academic or practical background in HVAC / HVAC-R systems.
  • Candidates must possess prior professional experience in at least one of the following sectors:
  1. HVAC / HVAC-R engineering or design firms
  2. Walk-in cooler/freezer or commercial refrigeration manufacturing
  3. Cold-storage construction or Insulated Metal Panel (IMP) companies
  4. Prefabricated / Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) companies
  5. AutoCAD/Estimation outsourcing firms directly supporting US, UK, or international clients

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Domain Expertise: Solid grasp of HVAC/HVAC-R fundamentals, refrigeration room environments, and insulation performance.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Excel (experience with dedicated takeoff/estimation software is a major plus).
  • Mathematical Acumen: Strong geometry, spatial reasoning, and the ability to calculate complex, non-standard material dimensions.
  • Blueprint Reading: Absolute comfort reading and dissecting complex multi-disciplinary construction blueprints.

Work Requirements & Environment

  • On-Site Presence: This is a strictly in-office position at our office located at Kumaripati, Lalitpur.
  • Night Shift Alignment: Must be fully committed to working the 6:45 PM – 2:45 AM Nepal Time shift to sync with US operational hours.
  • Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Traits for Success: Extreme precision, an analytical mindset, discipline, and a high level of accountability.
